The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s mission is to support the application of governmental policies and programs on the development and promotion of tourism. Formulate and implement active marketing strategies to promote Thailand as a tourist destination, thereby helping increase tourism revenue. Promote domestic tourism for local tourists. Develop the organization in order to attain excellence in its management system and services. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) was established specifically for the promotion of tourism in the country. Its major functions include: 1. Providing tourism information and data to the public. 2. Promoting Thailand as a tourism destination for both local and foreign tourists. 3. Conducting studies and setting up development plans to promote tourism. 4. Helping develop the people working in the tourism industry. TAT envisions becoming a center of excellence in promoting and developing sustainable tourism programs, upholding Thai dignity and culture, maintaining high international tourism standards and creating a balance between the economy, society and the environment. TAT’s strategic goal for the year 2004 is to prepare Thailand to become the “Tourism Capital of Asia”.
