By Mr. Patty O’Two Right in the heart of Pattaya is a marvelous Swiss/French Restaurant named Le Petrus, located at 219/20 Soi Yamato, (038) 421.246, open 11am till Midnight, with Happy Hour 6pm till 8pm (Ricard 50 Baht). The proprietor, Mr. Patrick Jorand told me a fascinating story how it was a Roman Emperor, Petrus who was responsible for introducing wine vines to France. This historic event has delivered to us the great wines of France. Many of these fine wines can be found at Le Petrus Restaurant and enjoyed with an excellent meal either in the restaurant or at home. Le Petrus Restaurant and Bar was opened by Patrick and his wife Ta two years ago, on July 12, 1998, the day France won the World Cup. Patrick is Swiss and at his family home they have their own vineyard. He has grown up with a love of wine and was formerly with the Vanichwathana Co., the Bangkok wine importers. Patrick and Ta have created a very homey atmosphere in the restaurant and ajoining bar. There is comfortable seating for 20 in the dinning room. The restaurant has been painted brilliantly with various murals. On of which depicts Patrick’s home in Switzerland. Many of Patrick’s certificates and awards for his knowledge of wines can be found on the walls of the restaurant. Also above the bar you’ll notice Patrick’s collection of Police and Military hats. The food is outstanding in Le Petrus. Their specialty is Swiss Fondue. All the cheese served in Le Petrus is imported from Switzerland. Some of the highlights on the menu include; Moules Farcies – stuffed mussels for 90 Baht, Beef Filet with Roquefort cheese 215 Baht, with Red Wine Sauce 205 Baht or with Mustard Sauce 205 Baht; Cervelles Meuniere – Brain Meuniere 180 Baht, Rognons au Porto – Kidneys in Port wine sauce. All of the above meals include a choice of side dishes. The restaurant serves a grand daily menu, including 1 Starter, 1 Main and 1 Dessert for 280 Baht. This menu is different every day. The delicious bread and baked goods come from the Delice De France bakery. Ready for an amazing meal, then pop into Le Petrus. Enjoy some fine wine and dine sumptuously. Le Petrus Restaurant and Bar are located at 219/20 Soi Yamato between Beach Road and Second Road. Call (038) 421.246 for reservations.
