Another Smoking Side Effect
We know smoking while pregnant is a bad idea. Mothers may not have known that smoking can effect our unborn kids. In a University of Southern California study, researchers found that kids whose mum smoked while pregnant were 1.5 times more likely to have asthma; if Grandma smoked, they were 2.1 times more likely to have asthma.
Researchers suspect tobacco affects a fetus’s DNA and the child’s immune system, increasing susceptibility to asthma. If it’s a girl, that can be passed on to her children. If your mother smoked, tell your child’s doctor, says Clifford Bassett of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. Live long and prosper.
